Abstract
Thermal management of battery packs in hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) is essential to maximize pack performance and life. In this document, we will present results of thermal analysis and testing of a battery pack consisting of high-power lead-acid battery modules for the GM/DOE series HEV. Forced air was used as the medium for regulating module temperature of the HEV battery pack. A novel airmanifold was used to deliver airflow uniformly to each module for even temperature distribution in the pack.
