abstract = "This presentation is for the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) 2026 Annual Conference Pre-Conference Workshop: Vent Like You Mean It. Throughout the workshop, we will dive into various sections of the Smart Labs Toolkit (smartlabs.i2sl.org), which describes a systematic process that helps laboratory owners and operators plan and cost-effectively achieve safe, efficient, and sustainable laboratories. This Toolkit was developed by several contributors and includes results of best practices and lessons learned from various partner organizations. During the workshop, we will learn more about the setting up a Smart Labs program and navigating the four phases of the Smart Labs process - Plan, Assess, Optimize, and Manager. The presentation will highlight key elements for each phase, such as the laboratory ventilation risk assessment (LVRA) and laboratory ventilation management plan (LVMP), corresponding resources available in the Toolkit that support implementation, and lessons learned from partner case studies.",
