Abstract
The rapid growth of geothermal technologies across the U.S. presents a major opportunity to meet rising energy demand and create high-quality jobs. This study identifies workforce challenges and opportunities across geothermal heat pumps, district energy systems, and power generation. Using literature reviews and 33 expert interviews, it highlights the need for improved training pathways, expanded hands-on learning, clearer licensing requirements, and targeted outreach. As the industry evolves, future training should also incorporate emerging skills, such as artificial intelligence-enabled resource identification and smart controls, to meet shifting labor and technology demands.
