Abstract

The growth of nanotechnology is being accompanied by a widening of processes for producing ceramic and metallic nanopowders. Nanosized metal powders are produced by the electroexplosion of wire (EEW). Wire is fed into an argon-filled reactor, and it is subjected to a high-current, high-voltage microsecond pulse to cause it to explode. The process can be modified to produce metal oxides or nitrides by explosion of the wire in an active gas.
