Industrialized Construction: Process Optimization and Waste Reduction

Research output: NLR › Fact Sheet

Abstract

The construction sector was responsible for 25% of the total waste produced in the United States in 2018, with about 60 million tons attributed to construction activities. This Tip of the Month focuses on reducing waste from construction activities. Consistently across projects, a large portion of landfilled waste is made of drywall, lumber, and other materials that are cut or poured on site. Industrialized construction is the application of industrial operational best practices to construction activities, reducing costs and waste.
