    Abstract

    U.S. geothermal power plants, such as the steam plant at The Geysers in California, have a total generating capacity of 2700 megawatts, enough to provide electricity for 3.7 million people. This fact sheet explains the basics behind this power-- what geothermal energy is and what forms it takes, how it can be tapped, and what economic and environmental benefits can accrue to you and yourcommunity by utilizing this exciting energy resource.
