From Metered Data to Operating Modes: MRI Energy Use Insights

Research output: NLR › Fact Sheet

Abstract

This fact sheet summarizes the methods and key findings from Ghatpande et al. (2026), which analyzed energy use from 20 magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners across four U.S. healthcare facilities.1 The research used a load duration curve (LDC) method to identify power levels for different operating modes and calculate how much time scanners spent in each mode, along with the related energy use and costs. This fact sheet summarizes the methodology and highlights the results for healthcare building owners and operators.
