Field Measurements of Wind Impact on Heliostat Pointing Deviations at NLR's Flatirons Campus

Research output: NLR › Poster

Abstract

This study reports on optical testing of a singular heliostat prototype under real-life outdoor wind conditions at NLR's Flatirons campus. We performed laser pointing measurements on a heliostat prototype tested under a range of wind conditions to quantify wind-induced pointing deviations. A correlation developed between wind speed and heliostat pointing error serves as a case study to verify minimum technical requirements for total slope and tracking deviations of a heliostat under development in the corresponding IEC heliostat design and test standard.
