Abstract
Thermal and moisture problems in existing basements create a unique challenge because the exterior face of the wall is not easily or inexpensively accessible. This approach addresses thermal and moisture management from the interior face of the wall without disturbing the exterior soil and landscaping. It effectively reduces energy loss through the wall, principally during the heating season, increasing occupant comfort throughout the year and creating a WSP between the interior and exterior environments. This approach has the potential for improving durability, comfort, and indoor air quality.
